Week of November 29th

A quick update for this week.
Mr. Thai will be teaching math and language this week. His language lessons will focus on features of narratives with a focus on short stories.

Summary/Opinion Writing
I have marked your summary and opinion writing on the Poppy Pin article. They are generally well done. Some general feedback includes:
-avoid using the word "because" in your topic sentence. Your topic sentence should give the reader the theme/topic of your work but NOT include reasons. Once you say "because" you're beginning to give reasons/evidence that should be included in subsequent sentences (the body of your paragraph)

-keep your paragraph together -- do not separate the topic and concluding sentences from the rest of the paragraph

-watch your capitalizations -- we've discussed this during our writing workshop (the grammar work we've done)

-PLEASE use the feedback I give you during conferencing to improve your work -- many of you are not re-writing your work to improve it

We will write another opinion piece before the holiday break so you'll have an opportunity to further develop your skills.

Science lab and tests are next on my marking agenda!!!

Soundtrack of my Life 
We will begin presenting these on Monday. The success criteria includes:
-Introduce yourself and tell what you're talking about and why you're speaking to us
-Tell about the event -- be thorough and detailed
-Explain the song and it's connection to the event
-Focus on volume, posture, eye contact, clarity
