Week of September 14th, 2015

We survived the first week!
It was wonderful to see some of you again and to meet my new grade 7s! Getting to know you this week I am confident it's going to be a great school year.

For parents who haven't seen the timetable yet, here it is. Please note that Band/Strings/ORFF music classes will begin the week of September 21st.
Also, we will be in the pool this week for swimming. Please bring your swimsuit and towel on Wednesday. Changes in the timetable will be communicated with students and parents.

Cup Challenge
Early this week I challenged you to work together on a cup challenge. All groups worked well together and had successful communication! Some groups communicated a little louder than others (you know who you are!) but the results were positive!
During your reflection some common strategies for your success that were reported included:
-getting to know how the effectively use the tool
-listening to each other
-moving together at the same time
-being patient and moving slowly

I hope you take these strategies and apply them to other challenges, either group or individual, that you encounter this year!

Language
1.  We will complete a CASI reading assessment on Monday this week. The results of this assessment are to inform me of your strengths and areas of need in reading and will not be included on your report card.

2. "Me Bag" Assignment

Presentations for this oral assignment will begin on Monday. Please come to class prepared to share your items and descriptions. Please re-read the checklist at the back of the assignment for the oral component. In addition, here's the success criteria we created together in class this week:

3. Current Events
We will begin looking at current events weekly and learn how to complete a Triple Entry Notebook.

Math
Our first unit this term will include number relationships and fractions! Be ready to have a quiz this week on prime, composite, factors/multiples, common multiples.

We will begin Science and History later this week and will familiarize ourselves with the units of study. More information to come.
